KMC-Kootrac , located in southeast British Columbia, Canada has been in business as a family owned enterprise since 1954. Wayne Farenholtz, the owner and general manager, has always been passionate about the forestry industry since working for his father who founded the company. In 1974 Kootenay Manufacturing Company began their association with FMC Woodlands Division and became a dealer of the High Speed Steel Tracked Log Skidder. Seeing the productivity and environmental benefits of such equipment Wayne purchased the FMC skidder business in 1988 moving operations to Nelson BC.
Over the last 30 years KMC has been manufacturing, remanufacturing and redesigning the High Speed Steel Tracked vehicle to become one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly off-road machines in a variety of industrial applications such as timber harvesting, fire suppression, vegetation management and agriculture, oil gas and mining, utilities and more.
As a small business we specialize in remanufacturing existing KMC machines and are in the process of developing a newly designed “Kootrac 3000 Series” machine. Our specific emphasis has predominantly been focused on timber harvesting as we remanufacture a variety of log skidders to improve safety as well as increase productivity and profitability by building machines that can extend the contractors operational season in all weather conditions when other conventional machines cannot operate.
